Today’s knowaldge is more advanced on protecting your skin with sunscreen, using different sun protection factors that will be useful for different skin types ( dark,fair & light skin ).
The reason we should use sunscreen is to protect the skin against ultraviolet radition which damages the skin.
How UVA and UVB protectiion work.
The sun emits different types of light rays, two of which are primarily responsible for damaging your skin: ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB). UVB rays are shorter trusted source and can’t penetrate glass, but they’re the ones that cause sunburns.

How Often Should I Apply Sunscreen?
Weather or not you are in the sun, make sure you apply enough sunscreen for it to be affective. Most of us don’t do this, the average person out in the sun needs to cover all the unprotected parts of the skin when out in the sun.

Do I need to wear sunscreen even if I am indoors?
Even if your not spending the afternoon at the pools, and you are inside away from any sun light, you still may come in contact with UV rays when looking outside through the glass window, or if you are driving in your car.Some part of your face or arm will come in contact with UV sun rays.Daily use of sunscreen wil reduce the chance of skin cancer, wrinkes and age skin and dark spots.
Reappling reminders, Always reapply sunscreen. Aim for every two hours if you are outside, it will take about 20 mins for sunscreen to start taking affect in protecting your skin.
Do you need a different sunscreen for your face and your body?
As far as sunscreen goes, there is no difference to use a different type of sunscreen for your face or body, as long as there is enough sunscreen in the bottle or tube you are buying.
You should always avoid using spray sunscreen on your face, spray the sunscreen on your hands first and then rub it into your face.This will stop you inhaling the sunscreen.
Should children and babies use different sunscreens then adults?
For babies and kids, as well as those with sensitive skin,( dermatologists recommend trusted source) physical sunscreens since they’re much less likely to cause rashes or other allergic reactions.

Fragrances are also irritating to many people, so a physical sunscreen that’s also fragrance-free and hypoallergenic is ideal.

Sunscreen products protect the skin by absorbing and blocking harmful UVL. All sunscreen products must be tested, classified and labelled according to their sun protective capabilities
Sunscreens do not provide total protection and should be used in conjunction with other sun protective measures such as wearing sun protective clothing and staying indoors or out of the sun during peak sunshine hours.

With increasing awareness about UVA-induced skin damage, it is important to choose a sunscreen that also protects against UVA radiation. These products are labelled with the statement “Broad Spectrum”. Always choose a sunscreen which has at least one of its ingredients that protects across the full UVA range. These include the metal oxides, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, and the chemical absorbers,
Dry or oily skin
- If your skin is dry, you will benefit from sunscreen in a moisturising cream or ointment.
- If you have oily skin or readily develop acne, choose a sunscreen in a lighter base, such as an alcohol-based lotion, spray or gel.
- Lighter sunscreens are also better in hairy skin areas.
- Sunscreen sticks are suitable for nose, lips and around the eyes.
